The Smart Sponge^® permanently locks up the oil and will not release it under any amount of pressure. Once permanently absorbed into Smart Sponge^®, becoming a stable, buoyant solid, it can be removed from the water when convenient with traditional fish net hauling equipment, creating no further environmental damage. The recovered product can then be recycled into a fuel source with a BTU value of 18,000, equivalent to coal.
