Pentagon Quilts
Partners: GEICO, Home Depot, a private Benefactor
CTC and the CTC Foundation sponsored the Pentagon Quilts Reception at the Women in Military Service for America Memorial.
One of the principal objectives of the reception was to showcase over 100 quilts that had been presented to the Pentagon since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The Pentagon Quilts came from people in small towns and big cities across the country and the world.
GOAL: To help with the Nation’s healing process in the two years after the attacks and honor those lost since then.
Looking Ahead: The Ballistic Gauntlet
Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) developed this modular, multi-threat, soft- and hard-body armor system that protects the lower extremities of vehicle operators and occupants. The primary goal of the system is to offer 360-degree protection to vital organs of the lower waist and back, and protect the lower extremities (http://www.ballisticgauntlet.com)
CTC determined that there is a real defined need for lower body protection. The nature of the attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq and other hostile regions from rocket-propelled grenades and improvised explosive devises often results in traumatic injuries, including loss of limbs and death. These soldiers are experiencing an unprecedented burden of what orthopedists term 'mangled extremities'. The Ballistic Gauntlet is designed to provide the additional protection that our warfighters need. There is also the potential to create many new jobs through the manufacture of the Ballistic Gauntlet.
This Intellectual Property (IP) has been transferred to the Foundation and the market value of the IP has been determined. When the gauntlet is produced, the fees of licensing the IP will accrue to the Foundation.
GOAL: The Foundation will award grants to families whose soldiers have been wounded, for whom the gauntlet was not available.
